Interview with Jen Minkman & Giveaway

You might remember my review of Shadow of Time by Jen Minkman. Today I have an interview with her and a chance to win her newest book! :)

1) Hello Jen, thank you for joining us today. Could you please introduce yourself?

Of course! My name is Jen Minkman, I am a trade-published author from the Netherlands, and I translate my own books into English for self-publication abroad. My main genre is YA Paranormal and Sci-Fi.

2) I really enjoyed your book Shadow of Time. What's the story behind it?

It takes place in Navajo Nation, the USA's largest Indian reservation. After reading New Moon by Stephenie Meyer, I felt the urge to write a paranormal romance with a native American theme, and that is how I started to write my first book. Admittedly, it wasn't the first book I started, but it was the first book I fininshed, however!

3) What is your new book, The Boy From the Woods, about?

It's set in Austria and tells the tale of Julia, a quiet, artistic girl who is in love with Michael, the school's playboy. At the graduation party, he chats her up and asks her out on a date, but he soon loses interest and break's Julia's heart. After Michael almost dies in the woods because of a motorcycle accident, he suddenly wants Julia back. Struggling with her own emotions (why give this boy a chance when he didn't care about her before?), she decides to find out what has changed him so much, and loses her heart again in the process.

4) What are you working on right now?

Right now I am working on the translation of my next book, The Space in Between, a NA Paranormal Romance set in Wales.

5) Your favourite folk/fairy-tale?

I think I like Beauty and the Best the best!

6) What's your favourite myth?

The Loch Ness Monster. I still hope we'll discover it's real one day.

7) Who are your favourite writers and what are your favourite books?

I have SO many books I like that it's hard to stick to just a few, but I really like Ray Bradbury, Thea Beckman (a Dutch writer), Stefan Zweig, and John Wyndham. Currently, my favourite kind of book is YA dystopian, sci-fi or paranormal romance. The kind of stories I write myself :)

8) What are you reading right now?

I am reading The Returned by Jason Mott. It's a copy I received on NetGalley, but I haven't had a chance yet to finish it and write a review.

 9) Your favourite place in the world?

Home. :)

10) Anything you'd like to add?

If you feel the urge to write your own book, don't let anything stop you! It's one of the most satisfying things you can do.

Quick questions:

Spring or Autumn? autumn.
LOTR or GoT? Ahh.... BOTH! :)
Gryffindor, Ravenclaw, Hufflepuff or Slytherin? Slytherin.
City or country? country.
Tea or coffea? tea (but I really like iced coffee too!)

Giveaway:

It's international and one winner will be contacted directly by the author. Good luck! :)

What a fun interview! It was great to hear what the inspiration was behind her book! I also loved her advice for authors. Best of luck to Jen!
